Of the many instruments in our product line the Model 6234 is, without question, the most versatile, rugged and easy to use cutting machine for industrial and laboratory applications. Straight, smooth cits are the result and in many cases post-cut polishing of the part is unnecessary thus saving time and money (See figure 1).
The proven “Well” cutting principle has been incorporated in the upright Model 6234 for cutting relatively large samples of 230 mm in height and 210 mm in depth (~9 in.x 8 in ). The length of the sample is virtually unlimited as long as support for the work piece can be provided. Adjusting the height of the worktable by 110mm can accommodate smaller samples. In order to maintain the maximum linearity of cut when the sample sizes vary, two adjustable wire guide rollers can be height adjusted. In addition, optional micrometer tables are supplied when accurate slices are needed.
Since the diamond embedded wire, a process for which Well holds patents, of approximately 20 meters in length travels in both a forward and reversing direction the sample must be held firmly on the worktable. Clamping devices are supplied as standard accessories with the 6234 for fastening samples to the “L” shaped . “T-slotted” work-table for cutting irregular shaped objects
Because the diamond wire cutting tool travels at a relatively slow rate of speed (Variable up to 2 meters per second ) the “blade” is safe to touch at any selected speed while the cut is in process. In fact, the operator can watch the cut as closely as desired since no protective hood is required. Due to the low cutting action the sample requires a minimum of fixturing pressure . And, in the rare event of a wire breakage during the cut-ting process, the machine shuts off immediately and automatically.
The high tensile strength diamond embedded wire, available in sizes ranging from 0,3-0,5 mm requires no special “cutting fluid”. Wire life, cut-ting time, and cut quality is significantly fluid, which serves to rinse away the removed sample particles from the diamond wire. Well offers a specially formulated cleansing concentrate the has been proven effective when mixed with 98 parts of water.
